The Macrotones & The Void Union

Doors 6:30 PM | Show 7:30 PM
The Macrotones have been crafting deep, offbeat funk and soul since 2007. This 10-piece powerhouse blends heavy grooves, blazing horns, and global influences into a dancefloor-ready sound. They’ve shared stages with legends like Lee Fields, Durand Jones, and the Budos Band, earning a reputation for high-energy, genre-defying performances.
With a discography spanning six records—including their latest, From the Void (2024)—the Macrotones continue to evolve. Their sound took on a grittier, classic soul edge in 2019 with the addition of vocalist Phil Desisto, drawing comparisons to Bobby Womack. Even during the pandemic, they stayed active, releasing Bloody Hands (2020) and recording a live set deep in the New Hampshire woods. Now back on the road, they bring their signature “soundtrack for spies” to new audiences, fusing deep funk, Afrobeat, and cinematic soul into something entirely their own.
The Void Union is on a mission to keep the golden era of Jamaican ska alive while pushing the genre forward. This Massachusetts-based collective stays true to the rhythms of the 1960s, working with ska’s originators and collaborating with modern musicians who reinvent the sound.
The band's lineup—featuring core members Thaddeus Merritt, Rick Smith, Rich Graiko, Alex Stern, and Anant Pradhan—has played alongside legends like Derrick Morgan, The Skatalites, and Lynval Golding of The Specials. Their discography, including Higher Guns (2011) and Return of the Super Vape (2019), showcases their seamless blend of early reggae, traditional ska, and jazz-infused grooves. With a deep respect for tradition and an ear for innovation, Void Union continues to bring timeless ska to new generations.
