The Funktones: Barside

Doors 5 PM | Music 7 PM
The Funktones is a tribute band — to those mid-century musical geniuses who brought a spring in our step, a smile to our face, and occasionally a tear to our eye. They approach the music with a high regard for rhythmic integrity and soulful expression. They perform the works of Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Bill Withers, Billy Preston, and the Isleys, to name a few.
Darryl Butler (lead vocals) began vocal lessons at age 9. Along the way, he has been lead vocalist for numerous bands, and has 30+ years of choral experience. Darryl’s soulful singing is deeply rooted in R&B, jazz, and gospel.
Steve Gutherz (keyboards) is a skillful interpreter of a variety of genres, including mainstream and Latin jazz, fusion, R&B, and funk. Steve also doubles on the blues harp.
Dale Ellenberg (drums) lends his deep-in-the-pocket talents to a number of genres, including contemporary jazz, Dixieland, classic rock, blues, and funk.
Gabe Weiss (bass) is a former guitarist, pianist, and oboist who stumbled upon the bass when his (then) band’s bassist fell ill. The bassist recovered, and Gabe had found his instrument.
