BT ALC Big Band hits Sanctuary on June 20th, and if you’re into big horns, deep grooves, and straight-up funk, this is your night.
Led by trombonist Brian Thomas and trumpeter Alex Lee-Clark, this 18-piece band out of Boston blends the tightness of a classic big band with the raw energy of James Brown-style funk. They’ve built a name for themselves with killer original tunes and bold arrangements that pay tribute to the legends—especially Fred Wesley, whose influence runs deep in their sound.
In fact, they teamed up with Fred in 2023 for a live show that’s dropping as an album in 2025. “Seeing Fred with Maceo Parker in the ’90s changed my life,” says Thomas. “Now we get to work with him. Total dream come true.”
