Nellie McKay’s Strange Days: Get Away From Me Tour
Celebrating the release of Gee Whiz: The Get Away From Me Demos
Eclectic, fearless, and wildly original, Nellie McKay brings her Strange Days: Get Away From Me Tour to the stage in celebration of Gee Whiz: The Get Away From Me Demos, a collection of rare recordings that paved the way for her groundbreaking debut album.
Over her career, McKay has released a wide range of critically acclaimed albums, from jazz to pop to the delightfully undefinable. Her most recent project, HEY GUYS, WATCH THIS, recorded with The Carpenter Ants, taps into the soulful sounds of West Virginia. She’s earned a Broadway Theatre World Award for her role in The Threepenny Opera, co-created and starred in the off-Broadway hit Old Hats, and created musical biographies of trailblazers like Rachel Carson and Joan Rivers (Best Concerts of the Year – The New York Times).
Beyond the stage, her work has been featured in films like PS I Love You and Downtown Express, and her songs have appeared in Mad Men, Weeds, Boardwalk Empire, Grey’s Anatomy, and more. A frequent guest on shows like Letterman, Conan, and The View, Nellie was recently nominated for an Ovation Award for her performance in Ethan Coen’s A Play is a Poem.
With Gee Whiz (out May 9 on Omnivore Recordings), McKay revisits the homemade demos that launched her career — a vibrant, revealing look at an artist whose music remains as bold, witty, and unclassifiable as ever.
