Fernando Holz & Molly Flannery: Barside

Doors 5:00 PM | Show 5:30 PM
Free for Bar Patrons
Born in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, Fernando Holz was a sought-after performer in bars and clubs before moving to Boston in 1990. Upon his arrival, he made a big splash on the New England music scene as the lead vocalist with the popular quintet Gandaya, which created “Brazilian music with a great deal of heart and soul, and not afraid to take a chance or two,” — Jeff Turton, WFNX Radio.
He has performed at Boston-area’s premier jazz rooms, Scullers and Regattabar, as well as at the Hartford Jazz Festival. On his CD, Minh’ Alma Nua (My Nude Soul), Fernando melds happiness and sadness with superior material and an uncommon ease. Never stilted or weak in sentiment, the music makes connections with that of the master, Tom Jobim.
Molly Flannery is a Boston-based pianist, composer, arranger and band leader who loves jazz and Brazilian music. She studied with Ran Blake, Charlie Banacos, Kenny Werner, Harvey Diamond, and Doug Johnson. Her CD's include Slow Dance at the Asylum, Riding the Bull, and Undercurrents, featuring Haley Isadora on voice. She also was music director and accompanist on two albums released during the pandemic: Tyra Penn's Last Day of August and Lori Zuroff’s Ladybug.
